Hearing Aid Cleaning

At Clayton Park Audiology we recommend professional hearing aid cleaning by our clinic every six to twelve months. Patients who have purchased their hearing aids from our clinic will be scheduled for regular hearing aid clean and check appointments as part of their service plan. During these appointments your hearing aids will be thoroughly cleaned, minor components such as wires and tubing will be replaced, if necessary, and your hearing aids will be tested. Patients can also take advantage of our drop-in service at any time.

In between follow-up appointments, we also recommend basic hearing aid cleaning at home for those who are able. Our audiologists will teach you how to clean your hearing aids and will provide you with all the necessary tools and supplies.

A cleaning fee, per hearing aid, applies to hearing aids not purchased from Clayton Park Audiology.

Hearing Aid Repair

It is not unusual for a hearing aid to require small or large repairs over its lifespan. Hearing aids are constantly exposed to moisture and varying temperatures from our body and environment which over time can cause deterioration of the internal components.

Our registered audiologists are experienced in performing minor repairs to most hearing aid brands. Minor repairs include replacement of receivers (speakers), battery doors, microphone covers, bushings, etc. Minor hearing aid repairs are included in our service plan.

A repair fee, per hearing aid, applies to hearing aids not purchased from Clayton Park Audiology. The fee is dependent on the parts needed to repair the hearing aid.

If your hearing aid does not seem to be working properly or has stopped working altogether, feel free to use our drop-in service or call to book a troubleshooting appointment with our registered audiologist. Many hearing aid issues can be fixed in-clinic, however, sometimes a hearing aid does need to be sent back to the manufacturer for repair. Our clinic is happy to provide you with a loaner hearing aid while your hearing aid is out for repair.

Hearing Aid Maintenance Tips

01.

Each hearing aid has a colour indicator. Left = Blue Right = Red

02.

If using rechargeable technology, hearing aid(s) should be charged every day.

If using non-rechargeable technology, be sure to open the battery door when the hearing aid(s) is not in use. This turns the hearing aid off and prevents unnecessary battery drain.

03.

Wipe and brush debris from the hearing aid microphones and speaker every morning before putting them on.

04.

Use a disinfectant wipe to clean bacteria from the hearing aid once a week or as needed.

05.

Replace the wax guard/filter every month. Replace sooner if the hearing aid is not performing as expected or debris is visible.

06.

If using disposable domes, replace domes every month. Replace sooner if the dome is damaged.

07.

Remove hearing aids prior to showering, swimming or other activities involving water.

08.

Hearing aids should always be stored in their charging case or travel case when not in use, especially if you have pets. Hearing aids should not be stored in areas of high humidity or extreme temperatures such as bathrooms and vehicles.
